Nigeria Afrobeats Stars, Burna Boy, and Wizkid have both won awards at the 63rd Grammy Awards held virtually in Los Angeles. Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album whereas Wizkid won the Best Music Video for ‘Brown Skin Girl’ by Beyoncé.
The Grammy Awards originally called Gramophone is an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize achievements in the music industry worldwide.
Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy won his first Grammy Award with his ‘Twice As Tall’ album. The African Giant beat four others to emerge a winner in the Best Global Music Album category.

In an acceptance speech, he attributed his success to being an African. He said that “this is a big win for my generation of Africans and this should be a lesson to every African, no matter where you are and what you plan to do, you can achieve it because you are a king”
In 2019, Burna Boy was nominated in the same category but lost to Angelique Kidjo who dedicated her award to him stating that “Burna Boy is among those young artists that come from Africa that is changing the way our Continent is perceived and the way that African music is the bedrock of all music.” Today, Africans and people all over the world celebrate the ‘African Giant’ and his work which the Grammys nomination described as “a masterclass in the vibe”.
