Takoradi Metro Mass Transit Terminal Given to Private Transport
The Joint Transport Operators led by Metro Mass Transit have issued a release with claims that the Transport Officer of the STMA, Mr. Patrick Sebe, and others, have given out Takoradi metro mass transit terminal to private individuals . The station hosts seven transport groups, which include metro mass transit.

These seven transport groups include metro mass transit, Kumasi express, Takoradi-Accra Branch, Joy Transport , Kalmore Transport, P&C Transport, and W/R-GPRTU. This space is said to be given to a private company with the name Bimbisala Cooperative Transport Limited. According to the release, Mr. Patrick Sebe has declared openly that Metro Mass Transit Ltd. does not exist in the Western Region, hence the space was released to the private company.
The Metro Mass Transit is a state-owned transport system established to provide affordable fares for citizens, hence the confusion arising from it being given to a private group. In the midst of this confusion, the seven groups found in the station have teamed up to bring to the notice of the government, through the transport ministry, what is happening at Takoradi.

According to Mr. Patrick Sebe, a permit has been signed by the Honorable Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah ,the western regional minister who is also acting as the Metropolitan Chief Executive(MCE) for the release of the terminal to the private operator after the metro mass transit board chairman and the transport minister have all spoken against it. In view of this, the transport groups claim this action by the regional minister and Mr. Sebe is a perpetuated conflict of interest, which is also a sign of lawlessness.
It is believed that Bimbisala Cooperative belongs to the regional minister due to its manager, called “RASTA”, who also belongs to the transporters group of the honourable Okyere Darko Mensah, the Regional Minister, making us believe that he is behind all the atrocities committed by the transport section in the region.

In the struggle for justice, “Rasta” wounded some officials of metro mass transit, GPRTU, and others, some losing their sight in 2018 at the EKMA transport terminal, and that led to metro mass transit relocating from the EKMA terminal to where they are currently operating their transport business.
On Friday 29th April 2022, the same Bimbisala Cooperative led by Rasta came to the Takoradi–Kumasi GPRTU station with a team of thugs (Machomen) when a 45-seater bus, which had passengers onboard the bus and was about to set off, was impounded. All passengers were brought down into his bus and set off to Kumasi, creating pandemonium at the terminal, which took the timely intervention of the GPRTU Regional Chairman to calm his members down.

The GPRTU bus operators who suffered from this selfish act quickly reported the incident to the central police station in Takoradi and no arrest was made till this time. This is truly incredible and disgraceful for Ghana. As the Chairman of RESEC, the Honorable Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah is, by the constitution of the Republic of Ghana, expected to ensure peace and harmony in the region but not to create chaos among citizens.
The Metro Mass Transit, GPRTU (Western Region), and the aforementioned stations cannot and would not be able to work with the Bimbisala Cooperative harmoniously in Takoradi terminal, which is a known fact to the regional minister, Honorable Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah.
The said transport company has been registered at the Effia Kwesimitsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) and is operating successfully there, giving us another strong view that the said permit signed by the Honorable Regional Minister is for his own buses, as stated in the release.
They concluded by humbly requesting assistance from the government and National Security to solve this alarming social canker erupting at Takoradi.
