Massive Development Seen At Ahafo Region In Three Years
The Ahafo Region has seen massive development in the space of three years after human-centered creation, according to the minister, Mr. George Boakye, at the just ended ministerial briefing conducted by the ministry of information on August 17th. The Ahafo Region happens to be one of the six nearly created regions by the government in 2019. The newly created region has human-centered social intervention programmes and rapid growth that were previously not experienced.
The progress in the region has created significant development at the doorstep of its natives, and these developments can be seen in key areas such as health, education, and governance to ensure that locals have access to social services.
It is gratifying to note that within a period of five and a half years of the administration of the NPP, the Ahafo Region has witnessed significant achievements which have positively impacted on the lives of our people, thereby consolidating the vision of President Akufo-Addo.
In particular, the government’s flagship programmes in agriculture, roads, trade and industry, rural/peri-urban/urban electrification, affordable housing, provision of logistics for security services, water and sanitation, and employment creation are working well and gaining momentum, “he said.
The Ahafo Region has seen its education system progress. In his updates, Mr. Boakye said the region has been receiving significant investment in education by the government. He said the region has been the first hub in reference to public basic education, which has in the end granted the pupils in the region the opportunity to partake in their first-ever National Standardized Test (NST) for Primary Four (P4) pupils. The national standardised test revealed the region to be one of the strongest for lower primary education.
The region placed second in the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), placing first in specific subjects like mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies. The Ahafo region has seen tremendous improvement after its creation in educational infrastructure like classroom blocks, dormitory blocks, assembly halls, administration blocks, teachers’ quarters, dining halls, among others.
He also touched on the health sector of the region. The Minister said many developmental projects have taken place in the region to conform with the government’s vision to create and expand access to health services and enhance the quality of health service delivery in the region.
Some of the developmental projects include the construction of a polyclinic at Mim in the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly; the construction of a CHPS compound at Jachie; Atudrobesa, Konkontreso, Asutifi South District; and many others. Also, he said, the construction of a district hospital in Kenyasi, among a host of many health projects, is progressing steadily.
Mr. Boakye also touched on governance for the newly created region. He touched on the need for creating the region, which is to draw governance closer to the natives. He made known how functional departments, institutions, and agencies are established, which has shortened the travel distance of the natives .
He said the government has since the creation of the Ahafo Region embarked on a number of infrastructural initiatives to boost governance and improve the administration of the region. These include; ongoing work on the main Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) Administration block in Goaso, which is at an advanced stage of completion; completion of residential accommodation for senior staff of the RCC at Goaso; ongoing construction of the Regional Health Directorate and office complex at Hwidiem, among several others.
He then urged locals to tap into the massive socio-economic and infrastructural developments in the region as a way of bettering their lives and, in return, contributing their quotas towards making the region a better place.
