The governing New Patriotic Party and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have reached an agreement to maintain the country’s peace and stability ahead of the 4 March 2021 verdict of the Supreme Court with regard to the 2020 election petition.
This was disclosed by Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah after a high-powered delegation from both sides met on 25 February 2021.
The meeting, which included top security chiefs, was chaired by Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and hosted by the National Security Ministry.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, Mr. Nkrumah said “regarding the ongoing election petition, all parties committed to the need to preserve the peace in the aftermath of the verdict by urging their supporters to exercise restraint and desist from any provocative acts that could undermine law and order”.

Mr Mahama and the NDC are challenging the 2020 presidential election results in court.
According to the petitioner, no candidate garnered the constitutionally-required threshold of more than 50 percent of the votes cast to be declared the winner.
He is, thus, praying to the apex court to order a re-run of the election between himself and President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The court will give its verdict on Thursday.
