Due to the increment of petroleum products from 4.7 litre per barrel to 5.7 litre per barrel, various Driver Unions in Ghana have threatened the increment of transport fares from Thursday, 18th March 2021.

Speaking to Homebase TV’s mid-day news, David Agboado, the executive secretary of the Concerned Drivers Union of Ghana (CDUG) said, “the proposed increment in transport fares last month was halted due to transport ministry’s intervention and previous increment affecting lubricants hugely”.

The Executive Secretary stated that the past Friday’s budget statement by Hon. Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu touched on the increment of fuel from 4.7 litres per barrel to 5.7 litres per barrel.

When asked if there could be a change of mind if the Transport Ministry intervenes, he said bluntly that “they are no longer listening to the ministry because government did not think of their plight and that nothing will stop them from increasing the fares come Thursday, the 18th”.

He went ahead to refer to the move by government as “NAM-1 governance”
