Yaya Touré has publicly criticised his former agent, Dimitry Seluk, for making comments about an “African curse” that is stopping his former side Manchester City and Pep Guardiola from winning the Champions League.
Recent reports in the media are quoting Seluk suggesting that Toure has lifted the curse, paving the way for City to win the Champions League.
Touré has since distanced himself from Seluk’s comments and criticised the agent for perpetuating “lazy stereotypes about African curses.”
He took to Twitter to say, “Please don’t associate me with this nonsense and lazy stereotypes about African curses.
“Media… move on, please. This man does not represent me in any way. Amplifying these stereotypes is harmful.”
From 2010 to 2018, Yaya Touré was a vital player for Manchester City, helping the team secure their first three Premier League titles.
In 2013/14, he was awarded the club’s player of the season award, solidifying his reputation as one of the best midfielders of his era.
