The Volta River Authority (VRA), has constructed a bypass road to connect the Saint Kizito School to the Battor-Mepe road in the North Tongu District to easily reach out to flood victims.
It would also enable humanitarian relief items and other response measures to get to the school being one of the safe havens in the district.
It will also enable relief items, drugs, health services and supplies to be delivered to the people of Mepe timeously, while preventing people from crossing the contaminated floodwaters to reduce any infection of water borne diseases.
Mr Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, the Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), was at Mepe to oversee the distribution of relief items and drugs and assured the victims of the Authority’s commitment to making life comfortable for them.
He said the Authority would continue to support and called on the people to let the VRA know what help they could be offered aside from the ones already provided.
The VRA is believed to have spent an estimated amount of 50 per cent of its GH¢20 million budget on the disaster in many ways including portable toilets, bags of sachet water, bags of maize, diapers, packs of sanitary towels, mosquito nets, pieces of toilet rolls, cartons of baby food and many other consumables.
The Authority’s Health Services continued to visit all affected communities to provide healthcare education and medical screening services.
The screening is targeted at cholera, enteric fever, dysentery, worm infestations, skin infections, snake bites, malaria, and respiratory diseases.
Mr Divine Osborne Fenu, North Tongu District Chief Executive (DCE) expressed gratitude to VRA for their continuous responses and used the opportunity to thank Ghanaians including corporate Ghana and private and public institutions.
