The Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, Gabriel Kwamigah Atokple Tanko, has praised Republic Bank Ghana for its demonstrable commitment to regional development, particularly through strategic investments in agriculture and healthcare.
This commendation followed a high-level courtesy call by the Managing Director of Republic Bank Ghana, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, on the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu. The engagement aimed to explore avenues for collaboration in support of the region’s agricultural transformation and broader economic empowerment objectives.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Atokple Tanko noted that the initiative signals a shift towards a more intentional and inclusive approach to national development.
“Republic Bank is showing Corporate Ghana what it truly means to be a development partner,” he stated.
“Their targeted focus on agriculture and health—two pivotal sectors for the Volta Region—speaks volumes about their genuine commitment to improving lives beyond the pursuit of profit.”
During the discussions, Mr Gunu identified key areas in urgent need of support, including agricultural mechanisation and the expansion of rice cultivation in Tongu, Ketu North, and other northern belts of the region.
These areas, he noted, are central to advancing the region’s competitiveness in agriculture and reinforcing its food security strategy.
In response, Dr Dzoboku assured that the bank was ready to provide customised financial products tailored to the specific needs of farmers and agribusinesses across the region.
“We are not merely opening branches,” he said. “We are building bridges between opportunity and potential.”
The Council of State representative welcomed this approach, describing it as “the kind of visionary investment regional Ghana urgently needs.”
He further urged other corporate institutions to emulate Republic Bank’s development-focused model, stressing that public–private partnerships remain key to unlocking the Volta Region’s full potential.
As part of the visit, the delegation also undertook a needs assessment at the Ho Teaching Hospital, where Dr Dzoboku pledged support in addressing some of the facility’s most pressing challenges, underscoring Republic Bank’s broader commitment to both economic and social progress.
Mr Tanko expressed deep appreciation for what he described as the bank’s holistic approach to community development.
“When a corporate institution chooses to walk hand in hand with a region, through health, through agriculture, through community uplift, it transcends banking. It becomes nation-building,” he remarked.
Republic Bank’s sustained engagement in the Volta Region has set a new benchmark for corporate involvement in regional transformation.
Stakeholders remain optimistic that this promising partnership will yield enduring impacts for generations to come.
