Ehi leadership calls for peace following fatal attack and unrest

The Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Council of Elders, and the Ehi Development Council (EDC) have called for calm and restraint among residents, particularly the family of the deceased and the youth.

The call came following the recent violent incident that resulted in the death of a young man and injuries to several police officers in the community.

In a statement issued on behalf of Togbui Dzeble Adukpo IV, the Dufia of Ehi and Head of the Ehi Division of the Weta Traditional Area, the leadership described the incident as an isolated act of violence by an individual which does not reflect the true character of the people of Ehi.

The statement noted that Ehi – and by extension the entire Weta Traditional Area – has for many years been a peaceful community committed to local and national development efforts.

It expressed deep concern that the violent disturbances recorded on Monday, November 3, risk tarnishing the area’s long-standing reputation as a stable and cooperative environment.

“We urge the Ghana Police Service to expedite investigations and ensure that all persons involved in this heinous crime are swiftly arrested and made to face the full rigor of the law,” the statement said, adding that potential future acts of violence must be promptly prevented.

The Council extended heartfelt sympathies to the affected police personnel from the Ehi Division and the Dzodze District Command who sustained injuries while performing their lawful duties to protect life and property.

The statement further condemned the attacks on law enforcement officers and property, describing them as unfortunate and unwarranted.

“We render an unqualified apology for any conduct by members of the community that has brought this dent on the image of Ehi – a community that has long been a hospitable host to the Ghana Police Service and all security agencies,” it read.

The traditional authorities and the EDC called on all residents to fully cooperate with the Police Service to ensure thorough investigations and a timely resolution of the matter.

They emphasised that justice must prevail for all involved, while peace and unity within the community was preserved.

“We encourage the youth and the wider community to choose dialogue and lawful processes over violence,” the leadership stressed.

The EDC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security, government authorities, and stakeholders to restore calm and strengthen the peace and development agenda of the Ehi community.
