The US Vice President, Kamala Harris has clarified the kind of partnership the US seeks with Africa.

According to her, the partnership will be guided by the US focusing on working together with its African partners to find solutions to the challenges they face.

She also assured Ghanaians that the alliance between the US and its African partners will be premised on candor.

“What does it mean, the United States of America is all in? It means that the United States is committed to strengthening our partnerships across the continent of Africa. Partnerships with governments, the private sector, civil society and all of you. Partnerships based on openness, inclusiveness, candor, shared interests and mutual benefit.

“And to be clear, America will be guided by not what we can do for our African partners, but what we can do with our African partners. Together, we will address the challenges we face and the incredible opportunities ahead,” the US Vice President made this disclosure on Tuesday, in her public lecture at the Black Star Square, Accra.

Additionally, she highlighted investments in innovations as one of the areas of opportunities to address the challenges of the continent.

According to her, she deemed innovation a tool that can be harnessed to stimulate bold thinking.

Thus, she encouraged the youth to make use of innovations as it is a way to change the status quo of the society and change the world.

“And so to the young leaders here today, you, by your nature are dreamers and innovators. And so to you, I say, it is your spark, your creativity and your determination that will drive the future. And with that then, African ideas and innovations will shape the future of the world,” she said in her speech.

Madam Harris stated that it was, for this reason, the US deemed it essential to invest in African ingenuity and creativity so as to unlock incredible economic growth and opportunities for people in Africa, America, and around the world.

“So the Biden-Harris administration and the American people stand ready to partner with you, to help accelerate the innovations and entrepreneurship that is already underway.”

The US Vice President who is on a three-day tour in the country is seeking to forge stronger ties with the African diaspora, and also “build on” the December US-Africa summit in Washington, where President Joe Biden declared that the US was “all in on Africa’s future.”
