The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has criticised the government’s directive to revoke public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, February 13, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, described the move as illegal, regressive, and damaging to Ghana’s democratic governance.

According to him, the directive—issued by President John Dramani Mahama through the Chief of Staff—undermines the integrity of Ghana’s public service recruitment processes and contradicts the National Democratic Congress government’s commitment to job creation under its proposed 24-hour economy.

He questioned the government’s sincerity in fulfilling its campaign promise of creating more jobs through the 24-hour policy.

“This decision contradicts the core principles of job creation which the ruling party promised. We were told the 24-hour economy would provide opportunities for people to work in shifts—morning, afternoon, and evening. Now, rather than creating jobs, the government is taking them away. What happened,” he asked.

He further pointed out that public sector recruitment follows a rigorous bureaucratic process with multiple levels of approval, making the directive to revoke the appointments not only unfair but also unlawful.

The NPP National Organiser argued that the directive lacks legal foundation and could have severe consequences for individuals and families affected.

“Public service appointments are not arbitrary. They go through strict processes, and revoking them now compromises the credibility of our institutions,” he said.

Nana B called on the government to reconsider the decision, warning that it could set a dangerous precedent and erode confidence in Ghana’s governance structures.
