Ministry of Gender, children and social protection has organised two-day capacity building for queen mothers and women leaders in the Tano North constituency to help curb teenage pregnancies and child marriage.
Tano North is among the districts which recorded high rates of teenage pregnancies and child marriage in the country.
Addressing the stakeholders at the opening of the conference at Duayaw Nkkwanta in the Tano North Municipality on Monday, October 12, 2020, the deputy minister for Gender children and social protection, Freda Prempeh stated that, nowadays Tano North constituency has recorded high rates of teenage pregnancies which are affecting girl child education in the Municipality.
The deputy minister who doubles as a member of parliament appeals to the queen mothers to reinstate puberty rite which she believes it solves at least teenage pregnancies in society.

According to the legislator, in the olden days, it would be difficult to see a young lady who is pregnant compare to the current situation.
The Queen mother of Bomaa – Dwenease, Nana Anima Ahwenepa had asked queen mothers, opinion leaders, and parents to join in the fight to dissuade teenage girls from indulging in sexual impropriety.
She urged the queen mothers and parents to promote Teenage mothers back to school which will enhance them to fulfill their education status.
