The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison has said that the government is yet to enact a law to protect people who are accused as witches in Ghana.

In a press meeting on Wednesday at the Ministry of Information, she stated that the Ministry initially, decided to close down all witch camps but after visiting almost all witch camps in the Northern Region, they realized that it is not going to be easy for them to be closed down.

According to her, they met leaders and Chiefs in the towns, and with the Information they had, they rather decide to enact a law to protect those accused of being witches so they are not lynched.

“It wasn’t easy for us to close down the witch camps. We visited almost all witch camps in the North. We have made a law that, no one should lynch a witch.”

Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison further said that with the help of the Ministry and other agencies, they are going to renovate the witch camps and help them get a better life.

“We are going to renovate where they are. We are thinking of helping them get a better life,” she said.
