The African continent has recently continued to produce players who have excelled on the world stage, particularly in the English Premier League.
African footballers in Europe have been lauded for their spectacular runs and brilliance, as well as their physical prowess.
African players in the Premier League have managed to amaze, scoring numerous goals, and here we list these footballers who have had a strong season in the Premier League;
1. Mohamed Salah
This season, the Egyptian is perhaps the top athlete in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah has matched Chelsea star Didier Drogba’s tally of 104 goals in 166 Premier League outings and has yet to surpass it.
Salah is now negotiating a new deal with Liverpool in order to extend his stay at Anfield. Since his transition from AS Roma to Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has been a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s club.
His prodigious ability, goal-scoring skills, and athleticism have left many asking why he has yet to win the male version of the Ballon d’Or.
He has 42 assists in the same number of games, and you can’t count him out because he is still playing and more is on the way.
2. Sadio Mane
When he was purchased by Southampton from RB Salzburg in 2014, the Senegalese international made his first appearance in Premier League play.
The Liverpool winger garnered the following while at Southampton, scoring 25 goals in 75 games, and since transferring to Liverpool, Sadio Mane has proven that he is one of the top players in the game.
Sadio Mane, who has scored 100 Premier League goals in 237 games, had a particularly memorable weekend.
Sadio Mane, like Mohamed Salah, was instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League and UEFA Champions League victories. Still an effective player, the 29-year-old will be eager to add to his goal tally as he continues to play a key part in Liverpool’s attacking third with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
3. Riyad Mahrez
By far the finest Algerian player to ever play in the Premier League is the winger.
He is the country’s leading striker and Africa’s fifth-leading goalscorer in the league.
The winger originally moved to England in 2014, signing for Leicester City, before moving on to Manchester City in 2018.
Mahrez has won the Premier League three times in his career, scoring 67 goals in the process. He was a key figure in Leicester City’s Cinderella run to the Premier League title in 2015/16, and he continues to add to his tally with Manchester City.
4. Edouard Mendy
Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard signed Mendy from Rennes to Stamford Bridge in 2020 to give Kepa Arrizabalaga more competition.
Under Thomas Tuchel, Mendy has established himself as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, and he was in exceptional form during last season’s Champions League campaign.
Mendy was left off France Football’s 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or despite his excellent form and accomplishments for Chelsea.
5. Wilfred Ndidi
Wilfred Ndidi is a midfielder for Nigeria and is now in his second city with Leicester City. The team has fallen off dramatically from its shock Premier League title a few seasons ago (before Ndidi was on board), but Ndidi has helped the club regain a spot among the Premier League’s upper echelon.
