#JusticeForRansford campaign intensifies as Ghanaians call for justice over death of 16-year-old footballer

The hashtag #JusticeForRansford is gaining traction on social media as Ghanaians call for swift action and accountability following the death of 16-year-old footballer Ransford Owusu Ansah, who was allegedly sexually abused by his coach at Siano Football Academy in Amasaman, Accra.

An online petition launched on November 7, 2025, has so far gathered more than 1,400 signatures, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute the accused coach, Ibrahim Anyass, and to suspend the academy pending a full inquiry.

According to the petition, Ransford’s ordeal began soon after he joined the academy, where he was allegedly subjected to repeated sexual abuse by his coach.

The sustained trauma reportedly affected his health and emotional well-being, leading to his hospitalisation and eventual death earlier this year.

Coach Ibrahim Anyass of the Siano Football Academy was reported to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters at 10 a.m. today over allegations of sodomy that reportedly led to the death of 16-year-old footballer, Ransford Owusu Ansah.

The case, which has drawn national outrage, stems from the tragic death of Ransford, who collapsed and later died after allegedly suffering repeated sexual abuse at the hands of his coach at the academy in Amasaman, Accra.

According to reports, the teenager’s mother told journalists she began noticing disturbing changes in her son’s health and behaviour — he appeared withdrawn, weak, and frequently ill — until he finally confided that his coach had been sexually abusing him.

Ransford was taken home and later rushed to the hospital, where his condition worsened. He reportedly fell into a coma before dying earlier this year.

Shockingly, despite the gravity of the allegations, sources say no arrest or formal invitation was extended to Coach Anyass or academy officials for several months after the initial complaint.

Ransford’s death has since sparked a social media campaign under the hashtag #JusticeForRansford, with over a thousand people signing an online petition urging the Ghana Police Service, the Attorney-General’s Department, and the Ghana Football Association to take swift action against those involved.

Police officials are yet to confirm the details of today’s meeting, but Ransford’s family and supporters say they hope the appearance of Coach Anyass before the CID marks the beginning of justice for the late teenager.
