GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, with ExCo memebers, George Amoako and Randy Abbey
Ghana Premier League delegates size at Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congresses could be reduced from 36 to 18, Joy Sports understands.
The proposal for a reduction is contained in a report submitted to the Executive Council (ExCo) by the Statutes Review Committee.
Meanwhile, delegates for Women’s Premier League clubs have been increased from eight to 20 per information available to Joy Sports.
Per Article 26(1) of the 2019 statutes of the GFA;
“For each of the eighteen (18) Premier League Clubs, two (2) delegates;
“For the Women’s Premier League Competition Clubs, eight(8) delegates of which at least five (5) shall be women.”
However, sources claim the world football governing body, FIFA, is against the members of the GFA having more than one delegate a Congress, hence the decision of the Committee to propose a reduction.
The Ghana Premier League is expected to be autonomous effective next season, thus, making the top division clubs a constituent body of the GFA.
Also contained in the report is the extension of the president’s tenure from two to three with two vice presidents of which one will be a woman.
She will be responsible for women’s football. Members of the ExCo will be increased from 12 to 23, with two representing the interest of women’s football.
The GFA will meet the premier league early next week to deliberate on the proposal before submitting it to FIFA for approval.
