Ghana MP Accuses Politically Exposed Persons of Land Grabs Despite Ongoing Investigations

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has criticized the current administration for allowing politically exposed individuals to acquire public lands at what he described as “ridiculous” prices.

He contends that state capture remains a significant issue under the present government.

“Let nobody think state capture is an exaggeration; it is real, and many people are recounting their ordeals,” Ablakwa asserted during an appearance on Key Points on TV3 on September 14.

He emphasized that citizens should have the right to understand how state resources are managed and enjoy their properties without facing harassment or undue interference. He likened the situation to a “banana republic,” where political power is misused.

Ablakwa expressed dissatisfaction with the President’s response to allegations involving a land dispute at the Ghana International School (GIS).

He described the statement from the Office of the President as biased and prejudicial, questioning the effectiveness of the investigation initiated by the President’s complaint to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). “Prime lands in critical locations, such as Cantonments and Labone Airport, are under attack.

He added, “The President’s statement is in bad faith, and any investigation will be compromised if such prejudicial comments taint it. “

In response, the Presidency denied involvement in the GIS land issue. A statement issued on September 5 clarified that Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Opoku of the VVIP Unit acted appropriately by reporting an altercation involving alleged encroachers to the Cantonments Police Station.

The Presidency stressed that no officer or agent from the Office of the President was directed to interfere with the GIS land.

The Office of the President has filed a formal complaint with the IGP, calling for a thorough investigation and urging the public to disregard any false claims related to the matter.
