Ghana assures fair treatment for Israelis as latest Ghanaian arrivals face no restrictions in Israel – Foreign Minister

Ghana has moved to calm tensions following a brief diplomatic standoff with Israel, assuring that all Israeli nationals arriving in the country will continue to enjoy the nation’s well-known hospitality.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a post on Thursday, December 11, announced that the latest group of Ghanaian travellers arriving in Israel have reported no incidents of ill-treatment, restrictions or harassment.

The Minister said the update was based on official information received from Ghana’s Embassy in Israel, which continues to monitor the situation closely.

“I am able to confirm that the latest group of Ghanaian travellers arriving in Israel have not encountered any ill-treatment, restrictions or impediments according to official reports received from Ghana’s Embassy in Israel,” he wrote.

Mr Ablakwa noted that while Ghana will firmly protect the dignity of its citizens abroad, the country remains committed to maintaining cordial international relations.

“In that spirit, Ghana will also accord all Israeli travellers to Ghana our famed Ghanaian hospitality,” he wrote.

He reaffirmed the government’s position on protecting the rights of all travellers within its borders, adding: “The Government of Ghana shall be unwavering in safeguarding the dignity of our nationals and other nationals as we pursue our avowed foreign policy of friendship with all nations and enmity towards none.”

Both governments have since agreed to an amicable resolution following the reciprocal deportations.

This assurance comes a day after Ghana deported three Israeli nationals in a reciprocal response to what it described as the “ill-treatment and unwarranted deportation” of three Ghanaians by Israeli authorities.

According to a press statement released on December 10, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision came after three Ghanaian nationals were reportedly deported from Israel under “unacceptable” circumstances. As a result, Ghana moved swiftly to expel three Israelis who had recently arrived in the country.
