Honorable Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the majority leader and minister for parliamentary affairs today 12th March 2021 held the fort as the interim finance minister for the substantive finance minister-designate Ken Ofori-Atta to present the 2021 budget statement to parliament; He said in his presentation that Ghana’s economy can reopen much quicker than anticipated. He stated that the real economy is expected to grow by 5% in 2021. Further, he stated that the headline inflation grew from 7.9% in September 2019 to 11% in July 2020.
The budget theme; Completion, Consolidation, and Continuation which took over three hours touched on various vital sectors of Ghana’s economy. Touching on the strength of Ghana’s economy in the pandemic since 2020, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu stated that Ghana’s economy is not in a blink of collapse but rather rejuvenating quickly due to stringent measures implemented to sustain the economy.

The budget reading followed the state of the nation’s address which was presented by the president of the republic, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo on Tuesday, 9th March 2021.
