Members of the National Concerned Driver Association (Drivers Union) are calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to create an Avenue in various lorry terminal to enable drivers and other traders to register for their biometric voters’ identification cards.
“As a Drivers, the plight of drivers is very key to us, we have toured in six regions namely Ashanti Region, Central Region, Volta Region, Western Region, Bono Region, and Greater Accra,’ the leadership of the Association made the call in a press statement issued today and copied to some journalists in Accra.
According to the statement, the leadership of the Association noted that as they toured within these regions they noticed that most of the drivers and their mates have not registered to the voters’ Identification due to the nature of our job.
“We appealing to the Electoral Commission and its stakeholders as they did for our children in schools by creating registration centers in schools, they give the same opportunity to drivers.
“We suggest the commission can select few terminals in which the exercise can be conducted. We are encouraging all drivers and mates to continually adhere to the health protocols to fight COVID 19,” the statement concluded.
