The Anyaa Sowutuom MP says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can now agree that the judges in the country’s courts are without bias following a judgement in a case involving former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo.
Dr Dickson Adomako Kisi said the judges have demonstrated fairness in their rule on the case.
“They [judges] have shown to be fair-minded and even they had doubts which sometimes they do, this is one classic case that I will always cite as proof that the justices are not necessarily just what government wants,” he said on the JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday.
Speaking on the delay of justice, Dr Kisi said governance is also a learning institution and that he hopes that such a case like that of Mr Domelevo’s never happens again.
He is hopeful that the former Auditor-General would be duly compensated for the damages.
According to him, the situation spelt a low point in governance.
Further, on the issue of delay, the MP said the court in its wisdom must have delayed the process in hopes that the conflicting sides would have resolved their differences internally before taking any serious action.
“When there’s always like a family contention, and people are looking for divorce, the court has a way of delaying so that there’s hope of reconciliation.
However, MP for Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suyuhini speaking on the show said the justifications for the delay in justice delivery is “neither here nor there,” stressing “justice delayed is justice denied”.
He said contrary to Dr Kisi’s claim, the NDC has no interest in the matter “beyond just being citizens of Ghana and concerned.”
He has, however, advised that the judiciary systems should take notice of the reactions of the public following the verdict on Mr Domelevo’s forced leave case.
Mr Suhuyini said the courts should make rulings that sit well with the conscience and aspirations of the people.
