A group of NDC grassroots supporters in the Dome-Kwabenya constituency staged a protest at the constituency office last night, calling for the immediate resignation of Constituency Chairman, Isaac Nii Lantey Lamptey.

The protesters accuse Lamptey of secretly working with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), thereby jeopardizing the chances of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, in the upcoming general elections.

The demonstrators, armed with placards, claim that Lamptey’s actions are undermining the party’s efforts to win the seat. They point to several incidents, including Lamptey’s

absence from key party events and his alleged demand that Akurugu surrender all campaign resources to him.

This is not the first time Lamptey has faced criticism. In 2023, he was involved in a public spat with Accra FM’s Bobie-Ansah, and broadcast journalist Samuel Huntor has accused him of exploiting the constituency for racketeering.

They called on the National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and other National Executives as well as party’s stalwarts to address the issue as early as possible as the general elections draw closer, stating that the party’s challenges in the constituency are internal, rather than external.

Key Allegations Against Chairman Lamptey:

– Failure to train polling agents for the parliamentary candidate

– Bias in campaign efforts, favoring presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama
– Appointment of a non-resident, Tescon member as deputy IT specialist
– Formation of committees without parliamentary candidate’s knowledge
– Meetings without agendas, hindering effective planning
_Collusion with NPP_: Secretly working with the ruling party to undermine NDC’s chances
_Campaign Resource Control_: Demanding that parliamentary candidate surrender all campaign resources
_Absence from Party Events_: Failing to attend key party events, including the campaign office inauguration
_Racketeering_: Exploiting the constituency for personal gain
-Branding of constituency vehicles with pictures of presidential candidate with his running mate leaving that of the parliamentary candidate

The protest highlights the deepening divisions within the NDC in Dome-Kwabenya. With the general elections looming, the party can ill afford such infighting. The national executives must act swiftly to resolve the

crisis and present a united front against the NPP.
