Following failing to Nigeria in the first leg of the qualifiers, the Black Queens have a huge task to qualify for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
On Wednesday afternoon, Ghana was defeated 2-0 by the Super Falcons in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
The hosts were able to secure an easy victory thanks to a double through striker Uchenna Kanu in the first 25 minutes.
Uchenna scored Nigeria’s first goal in the 20th minute after Ghana’s defensive errors enabled her to force a clear chance into the net.
Five minutes later, the 24-year-old made it 2-0 when she reacted fastest to turn the ball in from a looping corner kick.
For most of the first half, the Black Queens were second best, with Priscilla Adubea and Grace Asantewaa providing their only noteworthy offensive contributions.
Mercy Tagoe-team Quarcoo’s improved in the second quarter, but it was not enough to prevent the Super Falcons from winning 2-0.
On Sunday, October 24, 2021, the two teams will meet again in Accra for the second leg of the AWCON qualifications.
