Alleged Traffickers Remanded In Police Custody In Tamale

Two people have been remanded into police custody by the Tamale Circuit Court for allegedly trafficking eleven children from the Northern Region enroute to Kumasi.

The court which was presided over by His Lordship Amadu Issifu, remanded the two suspects namely Nkabeye Joshua 24 and Kwaku Manu, 45 age respectively.

The suspects through police investigation claimed they are inhabitants of Zabzugu, a farming community in the Northern region.

The arrested persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, and human trafficking.

The case has been adjourned to 26th January 2021.

Our news can report that the victims are below 19 years, and were being trafficked from Zabzugu enroute to Kumasi.

They are Yajome Koawan, 20; Vida Kubor 15, Tino Kafia, 15 ; Nimaya Tuwik, 10 , Maklanga Malan, 12 ; Belinda Malan, 14, Happy Domoah, 14, Bekina Ninkple, 16, Comfort Tiba, 10 ; Vitoria Dokunora, 9, Mbaba Nido, 16 and Yaw Abena, 15, the Northern Regional Crime Officer, Supt Bernard Baba Ananga revealed to the media.

According to him, the suspects were arrested on the intelligence of the Regional Police Command on January 10, within the business center of Tamale.

He said the police got a tip-off from some good Samaritans who spotted the children with the two suspects.

He said, the victims were being prepared in the business centre to continue their journey to Kumasi when the arrest was swiftly made.

He revealed that, most of the children are used for hard labor in the southern sector especially at cocoa farms in Kumasi.

He revealed that, the children are been held in the Tamale police Guest house.

Zabzugu District is one of the poorest districts in the Northern Region with most of their children lured to the southern sector for greener pastures.
