Sene East MP, Dominic Napaare has advised that government adopts measures to increase food production to avoid food shortage in the coming year
According to him, the spillage of the dam caused flooding which has taken over farmlands cultivating rice, yam, and other food crops which might be a potential threat to food security.
“There would be serious hunger this year because of the destruction of farmlands and other properties not only those along the Volta lake but also affected those in the hinterlands who also farm along low lands areas have all been affected. All those farms have been submerged,” he told JoyNews.
He explained that the government had not shown enough concern for his constituents since no government official had visited the community to assess the level of damage the flooding had caused.
Also, North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa accused the government had ignoring the plight of the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
“Apart from myself and the NDC party who have come there to sympathise with the people, the government in power has not been there at all,” he said.
He explained that his constituents were living under terrible conditions in the classroom adding that many grieving for their death whilst the government seemed unconcerned.
