Ho Social Roads Keta

Mr. Simon Yaw Awadzi, the Assembly Member of Aborlove-Nolopi Electoral Area, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has called on the government and other authorities to fix the deplorable community roads.

This, according to him, would enable easy movement of motorists and prevent numerous dangers faced by other road users.

Mr. Awadzi, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that community roads in the area, which include Afife Junction, Kpategbe, Aborlove, Nolopi, Kpekakope to Anyako and others needed urgent attention to save residents.

“I don’t understand why Keta municipal assembly is still suffering from grappling with deplorable road challenges despite the launch of the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) over some months ago,” he stated.

He described the community roads as deathtraps, when it rained and urged the authorities to commence an emergency construction since the DRIP programme was aimed at addressing road challenges across the various districts.

Mr. Awadzi lamented the delay in community road construction and emphasized that partisanship should not be allowed into the projects, especially regarding the use of the machines.

He recalled: “Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development said the government will supply gravel, sand, and fuel together with GH₵1 million to districts and l hope we must also benefit as an electoral area.”

Mr. Awadzi stated that many were of the hope that the machines would be seen working on the roads from the first day after the handing over to the districts to deliver and serve the interest of the people, whilst the “delayed and politics around the projects in the area has frustrated many others.”

Mr. Awadzi appealed to Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Keta, to as a matter of urgency release the machines to start work and the deplorable roads in the area and also provide transparent updates on the projects.

He also called on the public to join forces to demand action from the authorities to ensure all roads in the municipality were put in good shape to save lives and property.

The GNA also learnt that the Keta Municipal Assembly has however recommissioned the DRIP programmes at Vodza on Wednesday, October 16, to pave way for the construction of other community roads.
