The director of legal affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba believes that there are some mischievous persons whose objective is to erode successes chalked so far by the party.
Mr Amaliba’s comment follows a second injunction that has been filed against the party’s upcoming primaries on Saturday, May 13. It is the second to hit the primaries, with the first filed by presidential aspirant Dr. Kwabena Duffour struck out by the high court after he withdrew his injunction application.
Reacting to the latest suit on Joy FM’s Midday News on Friday, Mr Amaliba said the party has not officially been served with the writ.
Describing it as mischief, the legal practitioner stressed that the NDC remains united ahead of its internal elections.
“I would want to think that there are people who are engaging in mischief. And that is what is at play but the party is united. If you want to measure the strength or unity of the party, talk to the grassroots. They are yearning for this election to come off.
“There are a few miscreants who want to, as it were, thwart the efforts of the party, but generally the party is united,” he said on Friday.
On Tuesday, a presidential flagbearer hopeful, Dr Kwabena Duffour filed an injunction application against the party following what he said were some discrepancies his team had identified in the party’s voters register to be used for the exercise.
Two days later, an Accra High Court struck out his injunction application after asking his lawyers to withdraw the case.
There were singing and dancing among some NDC supporters following that decision, however, the joy was short-lived as the party faces another injunction case.
The plaintiff, Edgar Asamoah Boateng is a member of the party and is seeking the High Court’s order to prevent the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries from taking place.
He alleges that the lack of an adequate photo album of qualified voters has caused significant animosity and hostility within the party.
Should the writ be officially served, Mr Amaliba said the legal team will take a decision.
