The Mastercard Foundation e-learning initiative in partnership with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is organizing a training for lecturers in content creation.
The training will focus on equipping faculty members with the requisite skills in the creation of educational content for student consumption.
Director of e-learning at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Eric Appau Asante expressed that the training will equip faculty members with skills to provide quality education through the internet
“We have seen a gap, covid pushed a lot of facilitators, instructors and lecturers into the field of teaching online.
“We are now suffering the challenge of quality and being intentional and deliberate about what we put in there and that’s what this whole exercise seeks to do.
“Teaching in person and teaching online comes with its dynamic demands. So, we are going to train ourselves as to how to handle online pedagogy as well a strain participant to create quality content for online delivery,” he said.
He also observed that the content created for the classroom cannot be used for online studies.
“This is important because the content we teach in the classroom cannot just be placed on the virtual classroom.
“It might not be the way to go. There is a need to repurpose, redefine a few things and ensure that it’s still remains relevant,” he said.
The masterclass organized by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) started is part of the efforts of the university to increase digital teaching and learning.
This year’s masterclass has seen the attendance of affiliate universities, nursing colleges and education colleges.
Vice chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson commended the e-learning team for extending the training to the Obuasi campus.
“I am pleased to highlight the efforts of E-learning centre which has organized and continue to run series of training section for both faculty and student in the use of the learning management system before and during each semester.
“This individual invaluable training opportunity are also extended to the Obuasi campus of KNUST,” she said.
The training is scheduled to continue for the next seven weeks.
