Two Ghanaian senior high school graduates have clinched the first and second positions in the best student rankings for the 2022 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Exam (WASSCE).
Alex Opoku Manu and Benjamin Eyram Nana Kwame Degbey respectively from St. James Seminary SHS beat competition from Nigeria’s Ogiidigbo Chioma Blessing who settled for third place.

Though this was revealed earlier this year, the graduates received their awards at the 71st Annual Council Meeting of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) held in Gambia.
The students were honoured for their remarkable performance out of the five countries that took the examination.

Ghana Education Service (GES) lauded the boys for their achievement in a post on Facebook.
GES Director-General, Dr Eric Nkansah joined Ghana’s delegation in The Gambia together with which Headmaster of Opoku Ware School, Father Owusu Sekyere.
The duo also represented St James Seminary at the 2022 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
Alex and Eyram then beat GHANASS and Kumasi Sec Tech with an impressive 44 points in the quarterfinals.

The boys then faced contest favourites Presec Legon and Kumasi High School in the semi-finals where they exited after a fierce battle.
Following their feat in the 2022 WASSCE, Alex Opoku Manu is reading medicine at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Benjamin Eyram Degbey is also studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Academic City.
