Zenith Bank Ghana marks 20th anniversary with spirit-filled thanksgiving service

As part of activities marking its 20th anniversary, Zenith Bank (Ghana) Ltd on Sunday October 5, 2025 held a special Thanksgiving Service to celebrate its two decades of banking in Ghana.

The service, attended by staff and Board members of the Bank, was a moment of deep reflection and gratitude to God for His grace and faithfulness that have carried the Bank through its 20-year journey of excellence, innovation and service.

The Thanksgiving Service was not just a corporate gathering, but a moment of reflection of the Bank’s journey since its establishment in 2005. It was a testimony of God’s grace and faithfulness, which have seen Zenith Bank grow from a modest beginning into one of the leading financial institutions in the country.

Soul-stirring ministrations by gospel ministers MOG Music, Pastor Edwin Dadson, the Bethel Revival Choir, and the Zenith Choir filled the atmosphere with praise and thanksgiving, uniting the congregation in a shared spirit of gratitude. Bishop Kakra Baiden, Senior Pastor of Elaia City Church, delivered an inspiring sermon that underscored the importance of righteous living, stewardship and continuous self improvement as anchors for personal and organizational success.

The Board Chair of Zenith Bank Ghana, Freda Duplan said since its establishment in 2005, Zenith Bank Ghana has been guided by its vision “to be a reference point in the provision of prompt, flawless and innovative banking products and services in the Ghanaian banking industry”.

“Zenith Bank Ghana’s 20-year journey is one defined by resilience, purposeful growth, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. What began as a modest operation has evolved into a formidable force within Ghana’s financial sector, proving its strength and adaptability through changing market cycles and economic turbulence,” she said.

The Board Chair also underscored the Bank’s remarkable financial growth over the past two decades. She noted that Zenith Bank Ghana’s total assets have surged from under GHS65 million at inception to over GH₵22.5 billion as of the second quarter of 2025, positioning it as the sixth largest bank among 23 commercial banks in Ghana. Shareholders’ funds, she added, have grown from just over GH₵7 million to GH₵2.6 billion within the same period.

Mrs. Duplan further contextualized these achievements against the backdrop of Ghana’s economic landscape, referencing major events such as the global financial crisis of 2008, recurring exchange rate volatilities, the oil price slump, the 2014 energy crisis, banking sector reforms between 2017 and 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently, the 2022–2024 debt restructurings. Despite these headwinds, Zenith Bank, she said, has consistently demonstrated stability, adaptability, and a commitment to sound governance.

“Through it all, Zenith Bank has remained steadfast. Our capital adequacy ratio continues to exceed regulatory benchmarks, while our non-performing loan ratio consistently ranks among the lowest in the industry. Analysts and market watchers agree that our hallmark has been discipline and prudence, qualities that have sustained us even during Ghana’s most turbulent financial periods,” she stated.

Also addressing the gathering, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Henry Onwuzurigbo, emphasized the institution’s enduring commitment to excellence and innovation.

“Beyond the impressive figures, our true legacy lies in the culture we have cultivated, a culture rooted in integrity, innovation and service. A culture that prioritizes the customer, values collaboration, demands excellence, and rewards performance,” Mr. Onwuzurigbo stated.

He highlighted the evolving nature of the banking industry, noting that the future is digital, inclusive, and customer-centric.

“Zenith Bank Ghana is ready to lead that future. We will continue to invest in cutting-edge technology, nurture our talent, and strengthen our bonds with customers and communities. Our 20-year track record affirms one truth: we have the resilience to navigate change, the capacity to lead in a dynamic environment and the vision to redefine banking for the next generation,” he said.

As the Bank marks a significant milestone, Mr. Onwuzurigbo urged staff to look ahead with purpose, focus on finishing the year strong and position Zenith Bank Ghana for sustained success over the next two decades and beyond.

The Thanksgiving Service forms part of a series of activities lined up to mark the Bank’s 20th anniversary celebration, under the theme: “20 Years of Impact, A Lifetime of Shared Growth.”
