The medical staff of the Psychiatry Department at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been appreciated with some relief items in recognition of their outstanding work in caring for individuals with mental health challenges.
The items, which include fruit juices, bottled water, and massage vouchers, were presented to them by the Zen Riders Cycling Club.
This is to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and fostering mental health advocacy and education.

The founder of the group, Michael Amankwa, expressed the importance of this support for the medical personnel to feel valued.
“We came here to spend some time with them and let them know how much they mean to us and how much we appreciate what they do. Our intent is to work with them to demystify mental health and allied challenges in this field.
“We provided them with personalized mugs, adorned with beautiful, warm messages. These messages are meant to lift their spirits and emotions every time they read them, considering the crucial work they do.
“Our goal is for them to feel special, calm, and warm so that they can always remain composed when clients with mental health challenges seek their care. Additionally, we supplied them with water, drinks, and massage vouchers to help them pamper themselves,” he stated.
Mr Amankwa also announced the group’s upcoming biking challenge, which aims to raise further awareness about mental health.
“The Zen Riders plan to ride from Accra to Tamale and back in 10 days, from November 1st to the 11th. During this ride, our mission is to educate, entertain, and inspire, providing an innovative way to convey the message about mental health,” he said.

Dr. Dela Fiagbe, a Neuropsychiatrist at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, expressed his appreciation to the group
“This is a testament to the fact that everything we are doing is seen by all and is being recognized. We, as medical professionals in this field, face a high level of stigma, much like our clients, and this sometimes takes a toll on us.
“We are deeply grateful that you take these opportunities to remind us that our efforts are not overlooked, and we want to extend a very big thank you to you,” he said.
The theme for this year’s Mental Health Awareness Day is ‘Ensuring Mental Health as a Fundamental Human Right.'”
