A 36-year-old businessman and philanthropist Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing an impressive 24 votes out of 36 valid votes cast in the regional election on Tuesday, February 11.

The young entrepreneur, CEO of the Tanko Foundation and Sesi-Edem Company Limited, is widely known for his commitment to community development and philanthropy.

Mr Atokple’s election marks a significant milestone as he becomes one of the youngest individuals to hold this prestigious position in the region, a development that has sparked excitement, particularly among the youth.

Speaking after his victory, he expressed gratitude to the assembly members who placed their trust in him and assured them that he would work tirelessly to bring the needed development to the region.

“I am honoured to have been chosen to represent the Volta Region on the Council of State. This victory is not mine alone but for the entire region. I assure the people of Volta that I will never disappoint them,” he said.

He emphasised his dedication to working closely with assembly members to push for policies that would boost economic opportunities, improve infrastructure, and enhance social services in the region. As a successful entrepreneur, Mr Atokple has a track record of empowering young people, and his election is expected to bring fresh perspectives to governance.
