Ghanaian event and music promoter based in the United Kingdom, Eric Nii Tetteh, popularly known as Alordia has cited reasons some Ghanaian artistes are cancelling their foreign tours in recent times.

He told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces that the tours being cancelled by the Ghanaian artistes are put together by non-Ghanaian promoters who don’t know the target audience of these artistes.

According to Alordia, regardless of the weight of the international event organisers, if they don’t engage the Ghanaian promoters they would always not have the required numbers for these tours.

“All these shows that have been cancelled are not by Ghanaian promoters. It’s outside promoters. I will never put up a show for Stonebwoy and I won’t sell tickets or it will be cancelled.

Even me myself I can put an agent together without any artiste, maybe 500 or 400 capacity, pick up my DJ and we will sell the event,” he said.

Alordia, also the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Music Awards UK said that what Ghanaian artistes are doing wrong is that they give the event to non-Ghanaian promoters.

“Let’s say Afronation, we the Ghanaian promoters we cannot compare ourselves to Live Nation. They are big, they have the venues, they got the money, they got everything, what it takes to do events but they don’t have the crowd. What I mean is they don’t do their shows in the Ghanaian community. The Ghanaian promoters will be able to bring the crowd to your event so if Live Nation is doing an event for you and they are not promoting it in the Ghanaian community who are coming to watch? You won’t get it, you will cancel. And all these cancellations we are seeing is because of low ticket sales,” he told Kwame Dadzie.

He added that even though he and Dennis Tawiah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Akwaaba UK were instrumental in helping Ghanaian artistes perform at shows in the UK, a lot of these acts neglected them when they got more prominent.

“We started all these things with the Ghanaian artistes. I gave Stonebwoy his first travel experience. We love them, we promote them but when they get somewhere and they think that they can without us but they cannot do without us. If we are involved in their shows they will never be cancelled,” he told Kwame Dadzie.

He advised that if the internationally-acclaimed event promoters contact tell them to involve the Ghanaian promoters based in the particular country they event will be held.

“When they call you, don’t just go and sit there with your manager and sign a contract and all away. They won’t sell the tickets. When you go, sit down with time and do the contract and say to them I have my Ghanaian promoters who can promote the show,” he noted.

Alordia was among a number of entertainment industry stakeholders who spoke on the reason some Ghanaian artistes are cancelling their foreign events on Joy Entertainment Unpacked.

Other guest speakers were Dennis (CEO, Ghana Music Awards USA) Edem Mensah-Tsotorme ( entertainment journalist), and George Mensah Britton (artiste manager).

The rest were Randy Walker (media and marketing executive), Dennis Tawiah (CEO of Akwaaba UK, Austine Woode (Ghanaian broadcaster based in the UK), and Kofi Boachie-Ansah Beatmenace (audio engineer).

According to Alordia, a Ghanaian event and music promoter in the UK, the tours being cancelled by our Ghanaian artistes are put together by non-Ghanaian promoters who don’t know the target audience of these artistes.
