Dr Kofi Amoah

Businessman Dr Kofi Amoah has called on Ghanaians who get an opportunity to serve in public office to develop a culture of courage and resignations.

He said this is important, especially if they “vehemently disagree with the mismanagement, corrupt deals and certain bad and caustic practices of govts who appoint them.”

Dr Amoah’s admonition comes on the back of recent revelations made by former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Sarah Adwoa Safo.

Sarah Adwoa Safo has in recent weeks appeared in several media interviews, and making damning revelations about her time in office, especially her dealings with the National School Feeding Program which she alleges is fraught with unbelievable corruption.

Adwoa Safo who lost the NPP primaries ahead of the 2024 elections and thus could not contest the December 2024 elections also alleged that Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye’s committee probing the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections is an attempt to brush off ex-Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for a new candidate.

Her media commentaries have caused a social media stir with different sections of the public either praising or criticizing her.

Dr Amoah, a very outspoken citizen in Ghana and Africa, has said while the revelations by Adwoa Safo are commendable, it may have come a tad too late.

Commenting via his X (formally Twitter) handle, Dr Amoah, affectionately called Citizen Kofi said, “Oh Adwoa… How we wish you would have spoken up when the rot was happening and the country sinking in debt, how we wished then…

“Your honesty and courage to speak out now are admirable but unfortunately a bit late… Can this be a teaching moment for all patriotic politicians and public officials who witness rot and malfeasance in broad daylight but keep mute Ghana needs a culture of courage and resignations by public officials who vehemently disagree with the mismanagement, corrupt deals and certain bad and caustic practices of govts who appoint them.”

He continued, “Public officials’ allegiance must be to the country and its constitution, not to the authorities who appoint them into positions to then subsequently deceive and rob the country with impudence.”

Dr Amoah added that a lack of courage from Ghana’s leaders to speak up timeously denies the country the opportunity to address major problems confronting the nation.

“In the name of the Almighty, may we all be saved from these abominations and be filled with honor and dignity for our dear nation to rise and triumph for all We must replace our selfish impulses with group loyalty and welfare.”

Meanwhile, the NPP hierarchy has referred Adwoa Safo to its National Disciplinary Committee over her public comments on the party’s performance in the 2024 elections.

The NPP has accused her of breaching the party’s constitution and directives for members to desist from discussing party issues that “create unrest, negativism and disaffection in the media and other related platforms.”

In response, Adwoa Safo rejected the referral, arguing that the directive preventing members from discussing internal matters publicly was unconstitutional and infringed on her right to free speech.
