President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, was full of praise for women’s football following the end of the 2024/25 season.

Okraku was at the University of Ghana Stadium for the Women’s Football Festival, which saw the finals of the FA Cup and the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League all happening.

In both competitions, the Ghana FA head handed the trophies to the captain of the winning teams to crown off the season. Faith Ladies won the FA Cup after beating Jonina Ladies on penalties, while Police Ladies triumphed over Ampem Darkoa Ladies to claim their first-ever league title.

Attendance at the stadium was impressive on the day, with lots of Ghanaians coming in to watch women’s football on the day.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 2025 KGL Foundation U-17 Inter-regional Colts Championship, Okraku lauded the growth of women’s sport in Ghana.

“It was a day I was very much looking forward to because it was a day reserved for us to celebrate women’s football, and we called that day the Women’s Football Festival,” he said.

“The four teams that walked out of the changing room onto the turf made all of us proud. If you look at the level of the competition, the level of football, the enthusiasm shown by the clubs, the fans who defied the heavy rains to stay and to enjoy the female sport is something that really excited me.

“That tells all of us how far we have come. I think that the investment that we have made in female sports over the last five years is beginning to yield fruit.”

Okraku, who is also the second Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), also mentioned his desire to see the rise continue to the very top.

“Our Black Queens are back to the stage where they belong, getting ready for the WAFCON, and most importantly, Police Ladies and Faith Ladies deserve all the congratulations because they put up their very best,” he continued.

“They gave more respect to female sports, and I’m looking forward to seeing them compete on a much higher platform.”
