What to expect from Ghana’s music industry in 2026

Ghana’s music industry continues to evolve with each passing year, bringing new faces, major announcements, and high expectations.

As 2026 approaches, several developments within the industry suggest a year filled with anticipation, competition, and defining moments for Ghanaian music.

The industry is expected to witness a strong takeover by a newer generation of artistes who made significant strides in 2025.

Artistes such as Arathejay, Jubed, Lalid, Kojo Trilla, RCee, and several others have built momentum with their releases and performances, positioning themselves for greater visibility in 2026.

Expectations are equally high for established artistes, who are also preparing to make their mark in the year ahead.

In 2025, KiDi announced the release of his upcoming studio album titled “Where Do We Go From Here”. The album was initially scheduled for release in 2025, but for reasons known to Kidi and his management, it remains unreleased. There is hope that the project will finally be released in 2026.

Rapper Sarkodie, on the other hand, revealed in 2025 that he has a gospel album ready for release in 2026.

In an interview in 2025 with Ebenezer Donkor (NY DJ) on YouTube, Sarkodie confirmed the readiness of the project and expressed confidence in its eventual release.

“I have it. It’s amazing, beautiful music. If this year is too late, we just wait till next year,” he said.

The annual Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is also expected to take place later in the year. The awards scheme continues to celebrate Ghanaian music by recognising artistes who have delivered exceptional work within the year under review.

The 2026 edition is expected to be highly competitive, particularly in categories such as Best New Artiste of the Year, Artiste of the Year, and Most Popular Song of the Year.

As has become tradition, the awards ceremony is likely to come with excitement, tension, and moments of controversy, while still serving as a major celebration of Ghanaian music.

Sarkodie announced during his annual Rapperholic concert, the “Sarkodie and Friends: Rapperholic UK”, scheduled to take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on March 6, 2026.

This marks the first time the Rapperholic concert will be hosted outside Ghana, and anticipation is already building for the historic event.

As the year progresses, other artistes are also expected to organise headline concerts, with many aiming to improve on previous editions.

Artistes who were unable to host concerts in 2025 are likely to make a return in 2026.

With emerging artistes gaining ground, established acts preparing major releases, and key events lined up both locally and internationally, 2026 is shaping up to be a closely watched year for Ghana’s music industry. How these expectations unfold will ultimately define the year and its impact on the ecosystem.
