Wesley Girls blow 11-point lead to exit NSMQ2025 in heartbreaking finish

Wesley Girls’ High School, 2025 Central Regional champions, suffered a shocking exit from the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz after relinquishing an 11-point lead to Abetifi Presby Senior High School in a dramatic contest at the SGS Auditorium at the University of Cape Coast.

The loss also means the iconic school will lose its seed status and start from the preliminaries next year.

The contest began strongly for Wesley Girls, who ended Round 1 with a commanding 27 points, comfortably ahead of Kumasi Sec. Tech. School (16 points) and Abetifi Presby SHS (15 points). By the end of Round 2, Wesley Girls had extended their lead to 36 points, with Abetifi Presby trailing at 28 points and Kumasi Sec. Tech. at 18 points.

However, the tide turned in Round 4. Abetifi Presby SHS delivered a flawless “Problem of the Day” round, scoring a perfect 10/10, while Wesley Girls managed 9/10. This shift allowed Abetifi Presby to edge ahead, eventually sealing the contest with 54 points to Wesley Girls’ 49 points. Kumasi Sec. Tech. finished third with 41 points.
