General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has criticised the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in parts of the Ablekuma North constituency.
Speaking at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Accra on Saturday, Mr Kodua expressed shock at what he described as a sudden U-turn by the EC, despite the NPP’s confidence in its victory based on pink sheet evidence.
“The National Executive Committee of the party is dissatisfied with the decision by the EC to do a rerun in some 19 polling stations. We have all our scanned copies of pink sheets in the 281 polling stations, which gave us a clear win of 414 votes, and therefore, we were surprised that the EC decided to call for a rerun.”

“We felt that it was a wrong decision, and it is a bad precedent set by the EC, and this is very dangerous for future politics and future elections.”
The EC’s decision to conduct a partial rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency stems from concerns raised over irregularities in the parliamentary election results in certain polling stations in the 2024 general election.
The rerun has since sparked criticism and political tension, particularly from the NPP, which maintains it had secured a legitimate victory.
