We're in power to serve, not to divide – Asiedu Nketiah calls for unity

Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has intensified his working tour of the Volta Region with a renewed call for unity, discipline, and effective collaboration among party members and government appointees.

His second day on the tour took him through Afadzato South, Ho West, and North Dayi, where he met traditional leaders, community members, and party supporters to reaffirm the NDC government’s commitment to credible governance and inclusive development.

Addressing large crowds in the three districts, Mr Nketiah, affectionately known as General Mosquito, reminded party faithful that “the people gave the power the NDC holds today and must be used to serve, not divide.” He said the time had come for the party to deliver on the promises made to Ghanaians during the 2024 elections.

“The power we hold today came from the people, and they expect results. Our unity is our strength, and our performance is our proof,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah cautioned against internal conflicts and unhealthy competition for political positions, urging members to rally around appointed leaders to deliver the party’s development agenda. He emphasised that divisions within the party would only weaken its ability to meet the expectations of Ghanaians who voted for change.

Turning his attention to governance, the NDC Chairman assured citizens that the government is determined to ensure that only qualified and competent Ghanaians are recruited into the country’s security services, stressing that professionalism and integrity must guide every national institution.

“The days of favouritism in recruitment are over. We are building a merit-based and professional security service that works for Ghana, not for political interests,” he noted.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing all major road projects, particularly in the Volta Region, to open up communities, facilitate trade, and drive national economic growth.

“Every completed road connects opportunity to the people. We are not just building roads—we are building prosperity for all,” he emphasised.

The NDC Chairman’s message was warmly received by traditional leaders and residents, who commended the government’s efforts so far but also called for greater attention to key local needs.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah thanked the chiefs and people for their continued support and assured them that their concerns have been duly noted for government action.

Accompanying the NDC Chairman on the tour, the Member of Parliament for Afadzato South, Frank Afriyie, demonstrated his support for education by donating 300 chop boxes and assorted provisions to first-year senior high school students across his constituency.

“This government means well for our people. Let’s continue to have faith and support it as it works to deliver the promises made,” Mr. Afriyie said.

The ongoing tour, which has already covered several districts in the Volta Region, forms part of the NDC leadership’s efforts to strengthen grassroots engagement, assess development needs, and reaffirm the party’s gratitude for the overwhelming support received in the 2024 elections.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah reiterated that the NDC government remains committed to restoring integrity, fairness, and development to governance—guided by unity, accountability, and service to the people.

“We are in power to serve, not to divide. The task before us is to deliver—because when we perform, Ghanaians will renew their trust in us,” he concluded.
