The Middle Belt Director for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Kwadwo Tweneboa Koduah says the NHIA remains committed to having 20 million active subscribers by the end of 2023 per the measures it has put in place.
According to him, he has engaged NHIA staff in the Ahafo Region and explained that citizens who are actively subscribed to the scheme play a major role in Ghana’s development.
Speaking on Adom News, he said, “Ghana is aiming to reach 20 million active members in the NHIS by the end of 2023 which is a vital move in the journey towards attaining universal health coverage by 2030.
“I am pleading with everyone who isn’t participating to make sure they do so to be able us to protect ourselves and receive healthcare to get a society full of healthy people.”
He highlighted the steps taken and the extraordinary efforts made by NHIS managers across different offices, ensuring confidence in meeting the health improvement goal.
“The NHIA is determined to achieve the target by implementing robust measures and dedicated efforts at various managerial levels, aiming to enhance the overall health of the population, thus fostering the country’s progress,” he added.
The NHIA Director of Ahafo Region, Alexander Fordjour said “there are a lot of scattered communities which makes it difficult for people to get here. Some people are far away and getting money for transportation is even difficult. We have an outreach registration where we register people. Also, we are still making announcements about the NHIS app to make it known.”
