The Minority in Parliament has warned that it will not support the government’s plan to increase the rate of the Growth and Sustainability Levy.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in the 2025 budget, announced that the levy will increase from 1% to 3%.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines has petitioned Parliament’s Finance Committee to reconsider the proposed increase.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu announced his side’s decision to vote against the increase.
Meanwhile, the Minority is also demanding the full list of all the banks and other financial institutions that will be featured in the Bank of Ghana Governor’s briefing to Parliament next Wednesday.
Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu has also cautioned that, given that a number of the collapsed institutions are challenging the revocation of their licenses in court, Parliament must proceed cautiously.
