‘We'll come back stronger’ - Bryan Acheampong vows NPP revival after 2024 defeat

Aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bryan Acheampong, says the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections will not mark the end of the NPP.

He says the party will recover, reorganise and return to power.

Speaking on PM Express, the former Member of Parliament for Abetifi, said the NPP remains resilient despite what he described as a difficult moment.

“Definitely will bounce back, we are a political party and so on and so forth,” he said.

He rejected suggestions that the party is beyond repair. “It’s like we are in tatters, that we have to rebuild that,” he added.

The NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections has been described as one of the party’s most significant losses since the Fourth Republic.

The party lost the presidency and suffered heavy parliamentary setbacks, prompting internal debate about leadership, strategy and future direction.

When it was pointed out that the scale of the defeat was unprecedented, Dr Acheampong pointed to history.

“At the time that the NDC lost in 2016, yes, it was unprecedented,” he said. When reminded that the NPP has now surpassed that record, he remained confident.

“We’ll come back and win elections again,” he said.

He attributed the loss to a mix of political and internal challenges.

“Look, we had a headwind that was difficult,” he said. He also cited “some structural problems with the party candidature and all those things.” He described the situation as “a perfect storm, positive for the NDC and negative for us.”

Despite the setback, Dr Acheampong insisted the party’s future remains bright. “Be as it may, we’ll come back as a strong political party and then win elections again in this country,” he said.
