Weeping skies bid farewell to Dr. Omane Boamah

The skies wept over Koforidua today, Saturday, December 13, 2025, as heavy rains coincided with the final funeral rites for the late Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

The downpour, while disrupting parts of the massive gathering at Jackson Park, was viewed by many mourners as a poignant celestial tribute to the distinguished statesman who tragically died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.

The solemn ceremony brought together the nation’s political elite, led by First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama, who headed a high-powered delegation that included Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, and Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson.

The funeral service was intended to be the nation’s final, large-scale public tribute to Dr. Omane Boamah, who was highly respected across political aisles. Despite the inclement weather, the Jackson Park remained packed with mourners, a testament to the wide-reaching impact of the late Minister.

The occasion was characterised by glowing tributes highlighting Dr. Omane Boamah’s remarkable life of service to the nation, his humility in leadership, and his unwavering commitment to Ghana’s development.

The presence of opposition figures, notably the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s National Council of Elders, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, underscored the bipartisan respect Dr. Omane Boamah commanded. Mr. Owusu-Agyemang’s tribute was particularly heartfelt:

He was known for his academic brilliance, holding a medical degree from the University of Ghana Medical School and a Master’s degree in Health Policy Planning and Financing from institutions including the London School of Economics.

Ultimately, although heavy rains disrupted the ceremony, many believe the legacy of Dr. Omane Boamah will never be erased from the lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

His political colleagues, including the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention, Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, and the Eastern Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Hackman Kabore, also recounted their experiences and shared fond memories of his dedication to public service.
