'We won't be distracted' - Ayariga to Minority amid Kpandai protest

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has said he is not surprised by the protest staged by members of the Minority in Parliament today.

According to him, the ruling party will not be deterred by what he described as taunts and disruption since the House resumed.

Ayariga accused the Minority of seeking to derail parliamentary business over the contested seat of the MP for Kpandai Constituency.

The caucus, he said, has created constant noise, even blocking the Speaker from ruling, with the intent of preventing any meaningful work in the House.

“We will not be distracted,” Ayariga warned.

“I will let Ghanaians know that you are only pretending to be democrats… How can the Speaker rule if he has not heard all sides?” he asked, referencing procedural fairness.

He added that the Minority could have chosen more decorous ways to express their objections, rather than resorting to obstruction.

“We will not allow the matter to be treated in secrecy,” he said.

But in response, Frank Annoh‑Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, stood firm.

He insisted that “until Kpandai is resolved, government business will suffer.”

Moments after Mr Annoh-Dompreh aired their objections on the floor, the Speaker allowed the house to continue business despite their statements being almost drowned by the noise.
