We will never disappoint our colleague journalists – Adu-Domfeh

Senior News Editor at the Multimedia Group, Kofi Adu-Domfeh, has pledged an unwavering commitment to raising the standards of journalism in the Ashanti Region, assuring media practitioners and the public that his leadership will deliver tangible results.

Speaking after being elected as the new Chair of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Mr. Adu-Domfeh declared:

The seasoned journalist, who has over two decades of experience in broadcast and print media, outlined a bold vision to reposition the Ashanti GJA as a driving force for professional excellence. He emphasised that his administration will focus on capacity building, ethical reporting, and creating opportunities for journalists to thrive in an increasingly competitive media landscape.

The Ashanti Region is home to more than 300 registered journalists, representing a diverse mix of radio, television, print, and online media outlets.

However, the sector has faced challenges in recent years, including declining public trust, limited access to training, and the growing influence of unverified social media content.

Mr. Adu-Domfeh’s election comes at a time when the GJA is seeking to restore credibility and strengthen the professional capacity of its members. His leadership team has already hinted at initiatives such as:

  • Regular training workshops in investigative journalism, digital reporting, and fact-checking.
  • Partnerships with universities and media development organisations to provide continuous professional development.
  • Advocacy for better working conditions and safety for journalists, especially those covering sensitive or high-risk assignments.
  • Public engagement programmes to rebuild trust between the media and the communities they serve.

The GJA, established in 1949, is the umbrella body for journalists in Ghana and plays a key role in promoting press freedom, ethical standards, and professional development.

Ghana currently ranks 50th out of 180 countries in the 2025 World Press Freedom Index, according to Reporters Without Borders — a position that reflects both progress and ongoing challenges in the media environment.

Industry analysts say the Ashanti Region, as a major media hub outside Accra, has the potential to set the tone for regional journalism excellence if the right leadership and resources are in place.

Mr. Adu-Domfeh’s six-month transformation target will be closely watched by journalists, media owners, and the public alike.

His track record at the Multimedia Group — where he has led impactful news coverage and mentored young reporters — has raised expectations that his tenure could mark a turning point for the Ashanti GJA.

The new leadership is expected to officially unveil its strategic plan in the coming weeks, outlining timelines, funding strategies, and measurable outcomes for its promised reforms.
