Medeama S.C. coach Ibrahim Tanko is adamant that his side were denied a clear penalty in Saturday’s draw with Bechem United.
The Mauves and Yellows dropped to second place after failing to find a way past a resolute Bechem Unites side in Saturday’s match at the T&A Stadium.
In his post match assessment, Tanko was convinced that the match should have taken a different course.
The incident in question happened in the first half when Kelvin Nkrumah went down in the penalty area.
He had made a run for the ball after goalkeeper Benjamin Asiedu’s spilled Kamaridini’s shot.
But he fell in the process, amid shouts for a penalty. However, the protests fell on deaf ears.
Looking back on the incident, Tanko is convinced that Medeama should have been awarded a penalty.
“We should have been awarded a penalty. Because that incident was a penalty but that is football for you.”
Despite his disappointment, Ibrahim Tanko admitted that Medeama were wasteful in front of goal.
“The first half was really tough. I think we did not create any chance. In the second half, we created all the chances but unfortunately, we could not score.”
Medeama are now in third place with 22 points, just one behind league leaders Aduana Stars.
Bechem United remain in the relegation zone with 10 points from 11 matches.
