Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has paid a heartfelt tribute to eight patriotic Ghanaians, including two ministers of state, who perished in last Wednesday’s helicopter crash.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, 8 August, Buah described the tragedy as “profoundly painful and devastating,” noting, “The past three days have been profoundly painful and devastating for me as I grapple with the right words to express the depth of the situation.”
He made special mention of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister, Dr. Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru; Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Samuel Aboagye; and the dedicated crew members aboard the ill-fated aircraft. They were on their way to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme — an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable mining and empowering local communities.
Buah honoured their service, stating, “These dedicated patriots served our nation with unflinching commitment, and their sacrifice in the line of duty will forever remain etched in the annals of the country’s history and our hearts.” He stressed that they were “heroes—fallen soldiers in the fight for a better Ghana.”
In his tribute, the Ellembele MP extended his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls.
The tragedy struck particularly close to home, since the Minister was the lead public official at the event the victims were travelling to attend.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, who was addressing the gathering, was captured on video informing Minister Armah-Buah of the fatal crash while they awaited the arrival of the eight officials.
