The Director of Communication and Corporate Affairs at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emma Adwoa Appiah Osei-Duah, has defended the company’s operations and reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, and value-for-money service delivery.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, she assured the public that the company is open and willing to support any procurement processes that promote accountability.

“All that I want to say to people is that we are a very open organisation. We appreciate integrity, we appreciate transparency, we value the provision of value-for-money services, and we are willing to support any procurement process that the government deems fit so we can keep on having cleaner and healthier communities,” she stated.

Reflecting on Zoomlion’s contributions over the years, she explained that the company has played a critical role in improving sanitation across Ghana since its inception.

“I will say we’ve been able to run and provide effective management of our sanitation services in this country because at the time that Zoomlion entered, one major thing that I noticed was the heaps of waste that greeted us at the entrances of our towns and cities. We supported speedily with the evacuation of those,” she said.

She added that Zoomlion has been instrumental in promoting the use of standard waste bins in homes and businesses, helping to streamline waste collection nationwide.

“We also pushed into the system the acceptance of standardised receptacles for on-premises waste management heavily, and today it is almost not interesting to use any other receptacle apart from the standardised waste bin,” she noted.

In addition to waste collection, she highlighted the company’s investment in public education to encourage responsible waste disposal among Ghanaians.

“We have also consistently engaged in public education, reminding people of the need to be responsible for their own waste generation, even as the government and contractors do their part,” she said.

Ms. Osei-Duah also pointed out that private sector participation in waste management is widely recognised around the world. According to her, Zoomlion’s track record has drawn the attention of other countries looking to replicate Ghana’s model.

“Today, it is a globally accepted practice for countries to run their sanitation and waste management systems together with private entities. Through our activities, we have helped people understand this model,” she said.

She acknowledged that, like any service, there may be occasional operational issues, but stressed that the company’s progress is undeniable.

“When people start talking about certain little infractions in the waste management chain, maybe due to mechanical issues or other operational challenges, I understand from where I sit that we have come very far because it never used to be like this,” she explained.

She concluded by highlighting Zoomlion’s growing international footprint.

“As other countries invite us, they come, they see what we have done, they conduct their own checks with users of our facilities, and they want us to establish the same in their countries. I know what we have done for close to two decades for Ghana is now flying the flag of Ghana in the 24 countries where we currently operate,” she said.
