The Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has justified the recent invasion of United Television (UTV) by some members of the New Patriotic Party.

Last week, a group of young men barged in during the station’s prime time entertainment show, ‘United Showbiz’ temporarily disrupting the show and threatening to beat up the host and her guests on live television.

According to the irate youth, the showbiz show has been turned into a political platform where disparaging comments have been made about the president and the vice president in the absence of any party supporter to defend their persons – a situation they described as unfair.

The attack has since been widely condemned by the vanguards of free speech.

In a recent reaction to the invasion, UTV’s Agya Kwabena, speaking on the stations’ daily talk show programme, Adekye Nsromma, expressed his utmost disappointment in the ruling NPP government and their handling of the issue, and warned that he would begin to speak on issues that would harm the integrity of the government and bring pressing issues to the fore.

He bemoaned the hypocritical way in which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) handled the attack on UTV by failing to publicly condemn the invaders affiliated with the party for their misconduct.

However, reacting to the host’s statement, NEIP CEO, Kofi Nkansah, in a facebook post stated that just as Agya Kwabena was concerned about protecting the integrity of the station he works for, so is the NPP concerned about the integrity and image of its leaders.

He said the broadcaster should desist from playing victim after provoking the attack.

“Dear Agya Kwabena of UTV , just as you protect the brand you work, some of us also protect brands like Bawumia. So please don’t play a victim when you attack Dr Bawumia and you get the same response. If there is no Kukru kukru , there will be no keke keke,” he said.
