The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has annulled the entire results of 653 candidates who sat the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates (WASSCE-SC) after they were found with mobile phones in examination halls.
In addition, WAEC cancelled subject results for 6,295 candidates who brought foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks, and printed documents, into the examination halls.
The council is also withholding subject results for 908 students and the entire results of 158 candidates for other examination violations.
“Yet still, some subject results from candidates in 185 schools have been withheld for alleged collusion. These cases remain under investigation,” WAEC stated.
The announcement was made by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, alongside the release of the 2025 WASSCE-SC results.
The council added that 19 individuals, including teachers, have already been convicted and sentenced to fines or imprisonment for acts that compromised the integrity of the examination.
“The remaining 16 are yet to appear in court. Beyond what the courts decide, the teachers involved will face disciplinary action from the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service,” the statement emphasised.
WAEC encouraged candidates to access their results online via its official website, www.waecgh.org, and warned stakeholders against fraudsters promising to upgrade results for a fee.
This year, 461,736 candidates, 207,415 males and 254,321 females, registered for the examination, a slight increase of 0.24 per cent over 2024, while 5,821 candidates, representing 1.26 per cent, were absent.
